Oakfield B&B, situated in the heart of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, consists of two early 20th century bay fronted properties combined to provide ideal accommodation for those looking to explore South Wales – tourist and business alike.
The small terrace of only four properties was originally built by a local farmer to accommodate members of his family.
Blaenavon offers a great and varied insight into the beginning of the industrial revolution from coal mining to iron and steel making. It used to be said that the world was girdled with Blaenavon iron and this was a reference to the great days of the railway age when Blaenavon was world famous for its superior quality iron rails which were in tremendous demand.

The attractions at Big Pit National Coal Museum and Blaenavon Ironworks are a must see as these will bring the industrial heritage to life with stories told through photographs, diaries and word of mouth. The landscape surrounding Blaenavon bears testament to its industrial past and can easily be explored using well marked routes (Walker Route Packs are available). Alternatively, why not take a trip on the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway. This 2 mile trip on the highest and steepest line in the country overlooks the scarred industrial landscape of the past mining era. The newly opened High Level Station is only 100 yards away. |
